DSI is a Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO), legally registered in Zimbabwe in 2020. Registration Number: PVO75/20. Our areas of interest are: Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Basic Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, and Disaster Risk Management. 

We aim to support communities unlock their potential to achieve dignified lives through resilience building, by contributing to poverty alleviation and mitigating the impact of disasters, through provision of appropriate support to communities to meet their basic needs.

We are committed to supporting local institutions to achieve community development goals.

Our Objectives

  • To provide support to communities in need to address their Public Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) needs.
  • To strengthen food security and sustainable livelihoods mechanisms.
  • To facilitate Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Risk Management.
  • To offer consultancy services to private and public sector institutions, including donors, NGOs, government and local authorities.

Using best available evidence to make programmatic decisions. We will also endeavor to support local processes for:

Acquiring Evidence: systematically searching for and retrieving the evidence. 

Appraising Evidence: critically judging the trustworthiness and relevance of the evidence 

Aggregating Evidence: weighing and pulling together the evidence

Applying Evidence: incorporating the evidence into the decision-making process

ENABLING ENVIRONMENT

Supporting local institutions and systems strengthening to achieve community development goals 

DSI anchors its success on bringing communities, local, regional and national systems into full partnership; and optimize available resources for making progress towards strong systems and institutions, to achieve optimum development results for the people

DSI responds to community needs and issues, and engage with affected and vulnerable groups, support direct services and advocate for improved programming and policy environments.

SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Depending on available resources, in partnership with communities and through Private Public Sector Partnerships (PPPs) DSI will endeavor to support the construction and maintenance of facilities that support social services. Types of social infrastructure include healthcare facilities, education and vocational training centres, public recreational facilities, community housing and water supplies, sanitation, hygiene and market facilities for local economic and social development
